Jackson Hole Photo Shoot

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I have the biggest sweet tooth. I’m the kind of girl who could eat cupcakes for breakfast and feel no shame. But when this Jackson Hole shoot featuring the prettiest array of sweets hit my inbox, I came to the conclusion these desserts crafted by Persephone Bakery were just too cute to be consumed. They instead deserve a home inside this rustic chic photo shoot so perfectly put together by Katy Gray Photography and xowyo paper and press. It’s a shoot packed to the brim with inspiration, and we’ve got every last pin-worthy picture waiting in the full gallery here.
From xowyo paper and press….Our vision was rustic, wild and western, all while being elegant and feminine. We decided to shoot after the trees had lost their fall-colored leaves. Why would we do that? So many of the most beautiful weddings are held in the peak of summer or fall. But our shoot shows that you can have a gorgeous Teton wedding any time of year. We created a relaxed, rough, dusty, rustic look. Our florist describes it as dirty mountain chic, like a scene from a movie star cowgirl’s wedding. It’s laid back and gritty but simple and gorgeous.
The look of the shoot really started with the vintage Airstream from The Silver Bungalow. As Airstreams have become a big accessory for many weddings, this Jackson company has created a business around renting out its vintage Airstream. We wanted to show brides how they can incorporate an Airstream into a wedding, not just for pictures but as a staging area, as the bride’s dressing room, a lounge for the reception and as a decorative, showcase item. From there, we chose elements to capture a rustic, soft feminine look, combined with the beauty of the outdoors. A local rental company, Hunter Gatherer, provided a ton of vintage furniture, pillows and other decor to keep with our theme. And as the name suggests, owner Greer Terry hunts all over the West for unique pieces of vintage furniture and decor to accent weddings. Some of her favorite items in this shoot were vintage church pews.
Flowers were selected with rustic elegance in mind. The florist chose silver bowls to tie into the metal and silver theme of the Airstream. Those set the look from the bottom up. The Wyoming/Jackson Hole landscape color palette was the inspiration for the flowers. The silvery/white smooth bark of aspen trees dappled and cut with dark black swaths of color Inviwas mirrored in the flowers. The florist used locally cut dark (almost black) cone flowers and branches to contrast with the dusty pinks and the romantic, elegant look of the dinner plate dahlias and hydrangea. She also incorporated tons texture to mimic the wild grasses, sage brush, aspens and jagged mountain peaks, the rustic essence of our town. As for the cakes, a local artisan bakery, Persephone Bakery, created an artful elegant cake that expressed both rustic femininity and a connection to the beautiful floral abundance present in the Tetons during the summer months. They used a soft peach palette with subtle touches of lace to create an understated vintage element while keeping the design both simple and beautiful. They also provided French macarons to play off the monochromatic palette of oranges, pinks and peaches that reflect the colors of the setting sun in the western sky.
xowyo paper and press created invitations suites that paid homage to Jackson’s wildlife and color palette. The images have a vintage, throwback feel that are reminiscent of the Airstream era. But to keep things wild and rustic, they printed individual menus on brown paper bags and one larger one on a sheet of muslin. The gals at xowyo are always looking to keep things fresh and different, and the muslin menu not only served as decor during the reception, it’s also a sentimental piece the bride and groom can have framed to hang in their kitchen later on. The xowyo gals really wanted to show how some iconic Jackson images can be used in a way that is refined, fun and elegant, not hokey western that so many people are afraid of. The one thing us vendors lacked was an actual wedding gown. But out model, Tara, used her mother’s old gown from when she was married in Jackson 20 years ago. She spent the morning like an actual bride, getting her hair done by Kate Kelly and makeup by Tanya Crocker. They really gave Tara a natural, ethereal look without making her look too done up. This is the Wild West, after all. Of course, none of this could have come together without the help of Lindsey Nickel at Events, Etc. She kept us all organized and on schedule.
